Heading out for dinner with the kids during your Cape Cod vacation? You’ll find a number of nearby options that will offer great food in casual surroundings, where no one will look at you sideways if the little ones act up a bit.

The Harwich area is home to kid-friendly restaurants that will also make Mom and Dad happy when the food arrives.

At the Hot Stove Saloon on Main Street in Harwich Port, you’ll find one of the Cape’s best sports pubs. The welcoming and relaxed atmosphere is a great place to catch a game on one of the 13 TVs, while the kids will be enamored with the multitude of sports memorabilia in every nook and cranny of the restaurant.

Named after the Hot Stove League, a term defined as off-season baseball talk amongst fans and media, the restaurant is decorated in a historic baseball theme that is sure to evoke memories for the adults and perhaps create new ones for the kids.

The kids’ menu includes chicken fingers, hot dogs, mac and cheese, and thin crust pizza, and they are also welcome to a complimentary handful of baseball cards. For Mom and Dad, favorites include the lobster roll, stuffed quahog, fish and chips, fried clams, and baked scallops.

Mad Minnow Bar & Kitchen, located on Main Street in Harwich Port, opened in 2015 and features innovative offerings in an equally laidback setting; dishes include chicken-fried calamari, tuna cannoli, fried pickles, and Korean lobster rangoons. There are also burgers, a shrimp and crab cake po’ boy, and a fried chicken sandwich. For the adults, the scallops and gnocchi, the lobster carbonara or the Cape Cod risotto, with pan-seared cod, will hit the spot.

Brax Landing in Harwich Port has been a family favorite for decades. Overlooking Saquatucket Harbor, you can watch the boats pass from the outdoor deck while choosing from a menu where virtually every entrée is reasonably priced.

Grab a table on the deck or settle into an Adirondack chair and let the kids run around a bit while savoring the view.

Diners rave about the lobster roll, but you might also try the Wellfleet oysters, stuffed quahog, cherrystones, nachos, chicken wings, or steak tips. The extensive kids’ menu includes burgers, fish and chips, mac and cheese, and a grilled cheese sandwich.

Further afield is Mac’s Chatham Fish and Lobster, which combined two local landmarks, Mac’s Seafood and Chatham Fish & Lobster, opening in 2018.

Dine at picnic tables in the expansive outdoor area that is ideal for the kids, while savoring the freshest seafood anywhere. This laidback eatery offers small plates, shellfish, and hearty American classics, plus a raw bar.

Oysters, littlenecks, steamers, and mussels are all on the menu, along with a choice of ceviche’s and something called Mexican street corn, which is grilled corn on the cob smothered with Cotija cheese, Aleppo pepper, citrus aioli, scallions, and cilantro.

Entrees include numerous gluten-free options, such as seafood zarzuela, which is a rotating variety of fresh local shellfish and the catch of the day in a slow-roasted tomato stew.

Of course, there are also fried clams, scallops, and oysters, a lobster roll served cold or hot, and a fisherman’s platter. The kids’ menu features hot dogs, a grilled cheese sandwich and chicken nuggets.
