The cool thing about the Land Ho! – well, one of the cool things – is that if you belly up to the bar and the guy in the next stool is wearing a faded Filson coat and knee-high wellies, he could be a local fishermen or he may well be a bestselling author. You just never know and the bartender’s never going to tell you. A newer sister restaurant to the longtime local landmark in Orleans, The Land Ho! in Harwich Port may only be a few years old, but it has the woody charm of an antique pub; barn-board flooring, red-checkered tablecloths and exposed beams on the ceiling hung with hand-painted signs from dozens of local businesses. Both lunch and dinner are served year round. The lengthy menu is supplemented by a big blackboard of specials each day which highlights fresh, local seafood. Portuguese kale soup is a fave of the locals as is the massive stuffed clam.
